The Return of Mad Men

Tonight is the long-awaited season 5 premiere of Mad Men, a show critically acclaimed for it's art direction, acting, and costume design. I am an avid fan of the show but this will be the first of the premieres I will not get to see, due to my lack of cable. Unfortunate, I know. Alas, I will make up for this by praising the fashion that's presented in the show with you lovely people.

In this show, there is not really such a thing as casual attire. The men are always slick from top to bottom in perfectly tailored suits and skinny ties. And the women? Well, you can't watch the first episode without being completely blown away by how Christina Hendricks rocks a sleek 50s style dress.

Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson

The style in Mad Men has inspired various fashion companies like J. Crew and Banana Republic to launch their own vintage lines. Take a look at their collections...

From J.Crew Fall '12

Since the show is slowly progressing into the late 60s, the styles will more likely start to look like what J. Crew offers and I can't wait to see what's in store. I can almost guarantee that if you have any respect for fashion and fit, you will like this show at least a little bit. Perhaps you are already a fan, but if not it's worth a watch or two just to admire the stunning ensembles.

Enjoy the show (and the clothes)!
